Barack “Slick Barry” Obama

Obama says he has a “Twitters” account: Where is the Dan Quayle press?

Friday, June 25th, 2010

“We may be able to finally throw away those red phones that have been sitting around for so long,” Obama said, evoking the symbol of scary U.S.-Russia relations. Obama said that was doable because both men have Twitter accounts, although he flubbed the line, calling the social networking site “Twitters.”

Obama’s Promise: Stop 90% of the Oil Spill This Month

Friday, June 25th, 2010

By Patrik Jonsson, Staff writer / June 16, 2010

President Obama’s declaration that he’d like to see “up to 90 percent” of the Gulf oil spill geyser contained in the next few weeks is a best-case scenario in a worst-case kind of disaster.

From the beginning, BP has failed to meet expectations either to kill the well or contain the oil flowing from it. The containment dome clogged. The “top kill” failed. The “junk shot” accomplished nothing. Even the relatively successful “top cap” operation is apparently still leaking as much as 42,000 barrels (1.8 million gallons) of oil into the Gulf of Mexico daily.

BP and its promises to stem the oil are firmly in “the boy who cried wolf” territory. Yet Mr. Obama, in one of the most important speeches of his presidency, pinned no small amount of his credibility in the crisis on a plan that BP itself is trying to downplay.

Given BP’s performance, it was unwise – and unnecessary, to boot, says Alan Abramowitz, a political scientist at Emory University in Atlanta.

“The ‘90 percent’ line reminds me about the promise that if the stimulus bill is passed, unemployment will peak at 8 percent,” says Mr. Abramowitz. “He could’ve said, ‘We’ll be able to capture more of it,’ but when you put out a number, then people are going to come back and say, ‘How come this didn’t happen?’ From everything that’s happened so far, I’d be surprised if they can actually achieve that.”

Oil Slick Barry Can’t Stop the Spill

Friday, June 25th, 2010

NEW ORLEANS – More dirty evidence of the massive oil spill washed ashore along the Gulf Coast for residents who don’t need any more reminders of their frustration over failed efforts to stop the crude gushing from a blown-out undersea well.

In Florida, officials on Thursday closed a quarter-mile stretch of Pensacola Beach not far from the Alabama line when thick pools of oil washed up, the first time a beach in the state has been shut because of the spill. A large patch of oil oozed into Mississippi Sound, the fertile waters between the barrier islands and mainland of a state that has mostly been spared.

The news came as a cap collecting oil from the well was back in place after a deep-sea robot bumped it and engineers concerned about escaping gas removed it for about 10 hours Wednesday.

Even before that latest setback, the government’s worst-case estimates suggested the cap and other equipment were capturing less than half of the oil leaking from the seafloor. And in recent days, the “spillcam” video continued to show gas and oil billowing from the well.

BP’s pronouncements that it would soon be able to collect more spewing oil have “absolutely no credibility,” Jefferson Parish Councilman John Young said. The latest problem shows “they really are not up to the task and we have more bad news than we have good news.”

Washington Post Reporter Rooting For Obama’s Dems (No Surprise)

Friday, June 25th, 2010

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh famously said he hoped President Obama would “fail” in January, 2009. Almost a year later, when Limbaugh was rushed to the hospital with chest pains, Washington Post reporter David Weigel had a wish of his own. “I hope he fails,” Weigel cracked to fellow liberal reporters on the “Journolist” email list-serv.

“Too soon?” he wondered.

Weigel was hired this spring by the Post to cover the conservative movement. Almost from the beginning there have been complaints that his coverage betrays a personal animus toward conservatives.  E-mails obtained by the Daily Caller suggest those complaints have merit.

“Honestly, it’s been tough to find fresh angles sometimes–how many times can I report that these [tea party] activists are joyfully signing up with the agenda of discredited right-winger X and discredited right-wing group Y?” Weigel lamented in one February email.

In other posts, Weigel describes conservatives as using the media to “violently, angrily divide America.” According to Weigel, their motives include “racism” and protecting “white privilege,” and for some of the top conservatives in D.C., a nihilistic thirst for power.

“There’s also the fact that neither the pundits, nor possibly the Republicans, will be punished for their crazy outbursts of racism. Newt Gingrich is an amoral blowhard who resigned in disgrace, and Pat Buchanan is an anti-Semite who was drummed out of the movement by William F. Buckley. Both are now polluting my inbox and TV with their bellowing and minority-bashing. They’re never going to go away or be deprived of their soapboxes,” Weigel wrote.

Of Matt Drudge, Weigel remarked,  “It’s really a disgrace that an amoral shut-in like Drudge maintains the influence he does on the news cycle while gay-baiting, lying, and flubbing facts to this degree.”

In April, Weigel wrote that the problem with the mainstream media is “this need to give equal/extra time to ‘real American’ views, no matter how f#$%@!% moronic, which just so happen to be the views of the conglomerates that run the media and/or buy up ads.”

Obama’s Supreme Court Nominee Kagan Not Kosher With Rabbis

Friday, June 25th, 2010

Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan is “not kosher” — meaning she is not fit to serve on the court — according to more than 850 Orthodox members of the Rabbinical Alliance of America. That’s the term the rabbis used about Kagan in a press release issued Thursday, saying “Elena Kagan is not kosher. She is not fit to sit on this Court — or any court.”

Rabbi Yehuda Levin, spokesman for the alliance, told CNSNews.com on Thursday that “a great deal has been made about the fact that she would be the second Jewish woman on the court, and we want to signal to people across the country that we take no pride in this.”

Levin said most people are happy when “one of their own” is nominated to such a high position. But, he added, “We feel that Elena Kagan turns traditional Judaism on its head – from a concept of a nation of priests and holy people, she is turning it into, ‘Let’s homosexualize every segment of society. And by the way, partial-birth babies have no right to be delivered.’”

In a statement issued Thursday, the rabbinical alliance called on the Senate Judiciary Committee to refuse to confirm Kagan to succeed the outgoing Justice John Paul Stevens.

“It is clear from Ms. Kagan’s record on issues such as abortion-on-demand, partial-birth-abortion, the radical homosexual and lesbian agenda, the “supremacy” of the anti-family panoply over religious liberties of biblical adherents, et. al., that she will function as a flame-throwing radical, hastening society’s already steep decline into Sodom and Gommorah,” the rabbis said in the statement.

Levin told CNSNews.com that his fellow rabbis – and hundreds of thousands of Orthodox and traditional Jews – are puzzled at the president’s choice of Kagan.
